Published by Democratic Party of DuPage County on

Julia has been an active participant in Illinois Democratic politics for more than four decades. Currently, Julia is the Precinct Committeeman for Precinct 110 in Darien and State Central Committeewoman for the 11th District.

Julia began her political career in DuPage with the McGovern campaign for President in 1972, working with her good friend, Kathryn “Tinker” Harvey, going door to door and preparing mailings. She became a precinct committeeman for Downers Grove Township Precinct 52 in 1978 and remained there until she moved to Darien in 2004. She has served as Committeeman in Precinct 110 since 2006, when the committeeman moved away. She counted it a great honor to be Tinker’s close friend until her death, working closely with her in the DGTDO and the DuPage County Democratic organization for many years. She continues to do all she can for the Democratic Party in DuPage and Illinois.

Julia was a candidate for several Democratic offices:

1982, 1984 – DuPage County Board – knocked on 10,000 doors

1992 – Illinois State Senate

2006, 2010 – elected as State Central Committeewoman, 13th CD

2014 – elected to new 11th CD

2014-16 – President of Democratic Women of DuPage County

2015 – Formed the Blue 11th with State Central Committeeman Duffy Blackburn to increase outreach to Democratic voters

In addition, she has volunteered or served on the staff of many campaigns over the years: County Board, Illinois House and Senate, Congressional races and Illinois statewide candidate races.

Julia proudly served on the Illinois Electoral College where she cast her 13th CD vote for Barack Obama for President in 2008 and 2012.

Finally she is very proud to have served 6 terms as a member, Board of Education for Community High School District 99 and served as Board President for 10 years. She garnered the highest vote total in all 6 races.
