DuPage Dems Difference Maker – Sue Quigley

Published by Democratic Party of DuPage County on

Like many voters, I didn’t become politically active until after the dreadful November 2016 election wake up call. After a month of whining and being upset, which changed nothing, a friend sent me information about the Jan 9th 2017 DuPage Dems meeting at Wheaton Rec Center. I was relieved and surprised to find so many Dems in DuPage County. Wasn’t DuPage pretty much Republican? Well I signed up for anything to do with data, since my (paying) job is a Data Integration Specialist and thought that’s how I could best volunteer my time and efforts.

Over the next few months I found at least an event per week through contacts made at that meeting, or information about other organizations and activist groups, to go help, learn and start down the path of being politically active. Did not intend to be a PC, but while helping Laura Ellman and Kathy Carrier during petition signing in Fall 2017, it became clear that I could help other PCs with data/information if I was a PC too, so I committed and am glad I did. I think every PC will agree that the positive contacts made in our Precincts outweigh the negative experiences and that’s why we continue. And I have also made many new friends that share my views and keep me sane during this crazy political time.

In the past 2 ½ years I’ve volunteered on campaigns for all levels of office, state, county, municipal. Trying to find out how everything is done and what’s possible. It’s the quickest way to learn about the candidates and makes canvassing easier. Phone banking, canvassing, delivering yard signs, attending and conducting technical training, Vote Builder, MiniVAN, walk lists, postcards, sign making and activist marches, done it all at least once.

I’m most active now in the Lisle Township Dems as the Tech/Data Team leader. As a team, we’ve created a filing system for each PC so updated lists and maps by Precinct can be saved and accessed by Lisle Township PCs. Many talented people have come up with solutions to get information in the PCs hands quickly.

Wish I’d have gotten involved sooner, there just doesn’t seem to be enough time or energy to get everything that I’d like to do done! Maybe someday when I’m retired?
