DuPage County is home to a little over 930 thousand people. There is nothing more important than the safety of our citizens and those who work and visit DuPage. That is why I have asked the Health and Human Service Committee members make a recommendation to oppose HR 367** to the Legislative Committee. After some discussion it was agreed that staff will provide more information on the bill to the committee members. The HHS Committee will meet again in two weeks. I am hopeful the HHS Committee will have all the information they need to make the recommendation to oppose HR 367 to the Legislative Committee.

Hearing Protection Act of 2017
This bill amends the Internal Revenue Code to: (1) eliminate the $200 transfer tax on firearm silencers, and (2) treat any person who acquires or possesses a firearm silencer as meeting any registration or licensing requirements of the National Firearms Act with respect to such silencer. Any person who pays a transfer tax on a silencer after October 22, 2015, may receive a refund of such tax.
The bill amends the federal criminal code to preempt state or local laws that tax or regulate firearm silencers.
