DPDC Candidate Support:
Your Website and Social Media

In today's digital age, a robust online presence is no longer a luxury for political campaigns – it's a necessity. A well-designed website serves as the central hub for your campaign, providing voters with easy access to your platform, biography, event schedules, and contact information. Social media platforms, on the other hand, allow you to directly engage with voters, share your message, build grassroots support, and mobilize volunteers.

A strong online presence allows you to:

  • Reach a wider audience: Connect with voters beyond traditional campaign methods.

  • Spread your message effectively: Share compelling content, videos, and updates quickly and efficiently.

  • Fundraise more effectively: Utilize online platforms for online donations and crowdfunding campaigns.

  • Mobilize supporters: Organize events, recruit volunteers, and gather voter data.

  • Build a stronger brand: Create a consistent online presence that reflects your campaign's values and personality.

  • Monitor public opinion: Track conversations and sentiment surrounding your campaign and your opponents.

WEBSITE AND SOCIAL MEDIA BEST PRACTICES

1.Choose your platform

2.Consistent design & Messaging (click here to review our Messaging Advice)

3.Website: (click here to download an information sheet on easy to use Website platforms)

Home Page – tends to include volunteer sign up, short bio, potentially voter information

About Page – candidate bio with resume

      Priorities/Issue page

      Voter Information

      Contact Page

      Donation Button and Page

Subscribe Button / or Page (if the campaign will be sending campaign updates via email)

4. Social Media:

Facebook is a must, Instagram very important too. BlueSky, Twitter, Linked In, TikTok,      Youtube are all additional social media sites that may be useful.

Make a few reusable graphics for issues

Always post with a graphic or photo

Share & invite people to participate with your page

5. Photos:

A few good photos go a long way! 3-4 photos are important

      Professional headshot

      Candidate shot outside

      Staged photos with volunteers

Don’t be afraid to reuse photos

6. Mass Email Platforms

Small campaigns may be able to get by with just an email list in Gmail.

Campaigns with larger volunteer and subscriber lists will likely benefit by using an email platform. We recommend Constant Contact or Mail Chimp. Both platform are priced based on number of email addresses in your contact database. Both offer similar email creation capabilities. If you do send out a newsletter or campaign update, be sure to be consistent inb your branding and design to all of the other campaign artifacts you use.
